| Description | Built in the 100s AD, during the Roman period, this theater, or Odeon, was constructed by Publius Vedius Antonius, and his wife, Flavia Paiana, as a smaller venue than the Great Theatre of Ephesus, having a capacity of 1,500 people. The theater hosted political meetings, social events, concerts, and live theatrical performances. stood until the city was abandoned during the Byzantine period due to the silting of the city’s harbor, causing it to lose its economic influence and most of its population. The theater was excavated in modern times. The ruins of the ancient city of Ephesus were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015. |
