Summary[edit]

Description
English: Colwich Lock No 21, Trent and Mersey Canal, Staffordshire. The Trent and Mersey Canal Act was passed in Parliament in 1766. James Brindley was appointed engineer for the project. Construction took eleven years and the 93 mile canal was opened in 1777 from Derwent Mouth to Preston Brook. There are 76 locks. Colwich Lock, near Little Haywood, is Lock No 21, and alters the water level by 6ft 6in, about two metres. The railway bridge ahead carries the line to Stafford (left) and Lichfield (right).
