Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: Compton Down, west of Chiselbury The field boundary probably marks the point at which agriculture becomes impossible due to the gradient, and is replaced by pasture. It follows the contour of the hill quite closely. On the horizon are trees along the old turnpike road, marked as a 'byway open to all traffic' on my Ordnance Survey map of the area. This ridge-top route was along the course of a prehistoric trackway (which would have avoided the more difficult wooded surrounding valleys). |
