English: PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM (May 27, 2015) Hawaii Congresswomen Tulsi Gabbard visits with Navy personnel, contractor Pono Pacific, and members of the Aiea Community Association and Ali`i Pauahi Hawaiian Civic Club on May 27 at the Loko Pa`aiau Fishpond, McGrew Housing area, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. The fishpond is one of only three out of an original 22 fishponds in the Pearl Harbor area that is still relatively intact and has recently been transformed and made more visible with the careful removal of invasive mangroves. The Navy is pleased to move forward with this private/public partnership and open up an ancient Hawaiian cultural site for the community. The Loko Pa`aiau Fishpond will provide an opportunity to educate local keiki and military families on how the ancient Hawaiians used to farm fish along the Pearl Harbor shoreline.
