Description

My plant expert friend calls this a Cooley’s Hedge Nettle, Stachys cooleyae. While it's called a nettle, it does not sting. It has a great value as an attractor to butterflies. It is found in the Pacific Coast states plus British Columbia. This one found in Noble Woods Park, Hillsboro, Oregon, taken late September 2011.

It is at the end of its blooming season so most of the blossoms are gone. I usually has several blossoms on the stem.

Notice the bug in the center right.
