Summary[edit]

Description
English: Manufactured in the 1840s by one W. Kirchner, a glassmaker working in the studio of the count of Harrach, the Classically-inspired detailing on this thick, sulphide-enamelled beaker is representative of the restrained elegance and simplicity of the Biedermeir style. The portrait on the beaker is that of Jöns Jacob Berzelius, a prominent Swedish chemist who has his own place in the history of glass: having trained as a glassblower, he innovated a range of new laboratory equipment to aid his and others' research. As seen in the "35 Centuries of Glass" gallery during a March 2022 visit to the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York.
