Cosine reveals how much of actual rope tension and length exert directly against load at any angle; just like any other material.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Showing downward weight 100#, gets 100# pull back up at any angle.

As rope slants more, more tension is needed to hold against same load. For rope tension and length are expressed less to the vertical support against hanging load; at increasingly steeper angles, so more tension and length would be needed to support against same load at same position from same support.

Alternatively if set rope tension to 100#, can see reducing capacity of efficient transfer of tension to vertical axis to bear in same dimension against load as it pulls.
