| Description |
English: Cottages at Upper Ryelands Bridge Generally stated to be the wharf premises for the termination of the Ouse Navigation. They are some way from the canalised river, whose far bank is in the foreground. References have been made to a basin or turning circle here, but evidence on the ground, or on the 1879 OS map, is unconvincing. The traffic would not justify a large basin, nor would the finances run to it. Only a passing place, and possibly a turning place, would be necessary, neither of which show remains. Navigation ceased this far up around 1860 at the latest. |
