Summary[edit]

Description
English: Crop response to lime on acid soils in KwaZulu-Natal; crops are (from left to right) sugar cane, lupin, Eragrostis tef, sunflower, sorghum, cowpea, and maize. The soil in the background was limed at a rate of 10 t/ha bringing the soil pH (in salt solution) to 4.10, pH (water) to 4.72 and acid saturation to 31%. The soil in the foreground is highly weathered and naturally acid with soil pH (salt solution) of 3.79, pH (water) of 3.84, and acid saturation 75%. This was prepared as a field demonstration for the 5th International Symposium on Soil Plant Interactions at Low pH (2001).
