Deutsch: Der Ort gehörte seit dem Mittelalter zur Talvogtei Schönau des Klosters St. Blasien. Die Landeshoheit lag bis zum Übergang des Breisgaus an Baden bei Österreich. Der Bergbau auf Blei und Silbererz verlieh dem Ort im Mittelalter Bedeutung und Wohlstand. Mit der Auflösung der Talvogtei Schönau 1809 wurde Schönenberg selbständige Gemeinde. Das Wappen ist, da die Gemeinde - abgesehen von Schriftsiegeln des 19. Jahrhunderts - keine Wappen- und Siegeltradition aufweist, eine Schöpfung des Generallandesarchivs vom Jahre 1902. Der silberne Balken in Rot, der österreichische Bindenschild, erinnert an die jahrhundertelange Zugehörigkeit Schönenbergs zum vorderösterreichischen Breisgau. Die Eisen weisen auf den mittelalterlichen Bergbau hin. Waren sie 1902 in „natürlichen" Farben tingiert, so ist ihre Farbgebung heute der heraldischen Farbregel angepasst. |
