  • The Italian invasion of France in June 1940, known as the Battle of the Alps, marked Italy's entry into WWII and the final phase of the Battle of France. Benito Mussolini aimed to challenge Anglo-French dominance in the Mediterranean, reclaim Italian territory, and expand influence in the Balkans and Africa. Despite earlier attempts to keep Italy neutral, rapid German successes led to Italy declaring war on France and Britain. The Italian offensive along the Alpine front made limited gains before an armistice was signed in Rome on June 24, 1940. Italy occupied captured territory, established a demilitarized zone, extended economic control into southeast France, and gained concessions in French colonies.
  • Dolomiten is an Italian local daily newspaper, based in Bozen/Bolzano. It is the oldest and most important German-language newspaper published in South Tyrol, a region where German is spoken by the majority of the inhabitants. The title takes the German name of the local mountain range, the Dolomites.
