Summary[edit]

Description
English: Reactions of chromium(III)-nitrate. From left to right:

The pure solution of Cr(NO3)3. It's color is soft blueish.

(with (NH4)2S:) 2Cr3+ + 3S2- + 6H2O -> 2Cr(OH)3(s) + 3H2S(g) (Because of hydrolization, this reaction produces grey-greenish Cr(OH)3 which is swimming in yellow (NH4)2S here.)

Cr(NO3)3 + 3NaOH -> Cr(OH)3(s) + 3NaNO3 (the solid Cr(OH)3 has a grey/green color)

Cr(OH)3 + 3NaOH -> [Cr(OH)6]3- + 3Na+ (in OH- surplus, the solid dissolved to a mildly green solution)

Cr(NO3)3 + NH3 + 3H2O -> Cr(OH)3 + 3NH4+ + 3NO3-
Cr(OH)3 + 6NH3 -> [Cr(NH3)6]3+ + 3OH- (there's only little complexation occuring, but you can see a bright yellow colorization of the solution above the ring. I think this is the complex)

Cr(NO3)3 + Na2CO3: the grey-green color is because Cr(OH)3 is formed up here.
Deutsch: Reaktionen von Chrom(III)-Nitrat. Von links nach rechts:

Die reine Lösung von Cr(NO3)3. Es hat eine leicht bläuliche Farbe.

(mit(NH4)2S:) 2Cr3+ + 3S2- + 6H2O -> 2Cr(OH)3(s) + 3H2S(g) (Infolge Hydrolyse entsteht bei dieser Reaktion Cr(OH)3, das hier im gelben (NH4)2S schwimmt.)

Cr(NO3)3 + 3NaOH -> Cr(OH)3(s) + 3NaNO3 (das Cr(OH)3 hat eine graugrüne Farbe.)

Cr(OH)3 + 3NaOH -> [Cr(OH)6]3- + 3Na+ (im Überschuss von OH- löste sich das Chrom(III)hydroxid zu einer grünlichen Lösung)

Cr(NO3)3 + NH3 + 3H2O -> Cr(OH)3 + 3NH4+ + 3NO3-
