Erected in 1909 as among the first purpose-built structures on the New York State Fairgrounds, the Dairy Building (left) and Science & Industry Building (right; originally the State Institutions Building) were the work of the Buffalo architecture firm of Green & Wicks. They sport a design that's essentially identical to the lateral wings of the Center of Progress: engaged Corinthian columns with ornate capitals frame entrances whose expansive windows provide for ample natural lighting, while the side walls feature the same engaged colonnade pattern. In both cases, the hip roofs are low-pitched and undergirded by iron cornices with elegant brackets. The buildings are connected via a grand colonnaded loggia that, together, ably exemplify the Neoclassical style favored by the firm during the era.
