Summary[edit]

Description

Daniel Edward Barbey was a Vice Admiral in the United States Navy who served in World War I and World War II. While serving with the War Plans Section of the Bureau of Navigation in Washington, D.C. between the World Wars, developed an interest in amphibious warfare. In 1940 he produced Fleet Training Publication 167 – Landing Operations Doctrine, United States Navy, which would become the Navy's "bible" of amphibious operations, and would remain in use throughout World War II. He died at the Naval Hospital in Bremerton, Washington. There's a ship named in his honour, the Knox-classfrigate, USS Barbey (FF-1088). Although this picture was relatively easy to colorize, I had to face with some difficulties. First, I coloured that war pictures in the bottom and later realized they should actually be in black and white. Then I saw the ribbons. Ribbons are the worst part in any officer’s colorization. They took a lot of research and, if you are lucky and find all of them in Wikipedia, you still must match each colour with a very little range of space. That is the reason why the ribbons would normally seem to be unreal.
