Bought from Rossetti in 1865 by Frederick W. Craven of 54 Mosley Street, Manchester, for £286-5-0; his posthumous sale, Christie's, London, 8 May 1895, lot 48 (480 gns to Gooden & Fox). Sir Cuthbert Quilter, of 74 South Audley Street, London, by 1896. with Ernest Kolb in 1911, according to an exhibition label on the reverse, presumably acting as agent for the Quilter family. By descent in the Quilter family to the present owner. |
