Summary[edit]

Description
English: David H. Haeger House in the Dundee Township Historic District in East Dundee (c. 1862, remodeled c. 1897). David M. Haeger bought the house in 1871 and solid it to his son. The Haegers owned their namesake brick factory. Haeger was born in Mecklenburg, Germany and immigrated with his parents in 1854. In 1859, he set up a store in McHenry County, selling farm machinery and trading grain. He also set up a grain elevator in Barrington. In 1871, he relocated to Dundee, where he opened a brickyard in 1879. David H. Haeger also bought the Spring Mill and turned it into a feed, fuel, and lumber business. The brick factory was very successful, and he opened another branch in nearby Gilberts. By this time, he owned 1,700 acres of land and had extensive agricultural interests. In 1901 alone, Haeger's brick factories produced over five and a half million bricks and employed sixty-five men. His other financial interests employed an additional eighty men. He was the first president of the Dundee State Bank and was a village trustee. In 1924, Charles Thompson bought the house and converted it into the Tower Hill School for Boys.
