Summary

[edit]
Description

These are two genuine long-distance record breakers from the 1930’s. The Comet won the 1934 England to Australia air-race, taking only 70hours and 54 minutes. It later flew from the UK to New Zealand and back in under 11 days, another record. In 1939 Alex Henshaw flew the Mew Gull form the UK to Cape Town and back in 4 days, 10 hours and 16 minutes, a record which stood for over 70 years. Both are now owned and operated by the Shuttleworth Collection and are seen displaying at the collection’s ‘Flying for Fun’ evening airshow. Old Warden, Bedfordshire, UK
