DescriptionDecomposing male Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) Genitalia - Clusters of Barnacles surround the Genitalia - 3 July 2014.jpg |
Clusters of Barnacles surround the genitalia. The barnacles only I've one year. The Humpback Whale has changed drastically since its arrival on the beach beach 5 days ago. Gases such as ammonia, methane, and sodium nitrate build up as the mammals viscera and stomach contents decompose. Incoming tides cause it to float and to change the direction it is facing. The whale is now on its back with its underside exposed. For this poor whale, the world has turned upside down. Hazard Beach, Montaña de Oro State Beach, California |
