Description
English: "Unconquerable" (also known as "Defiant Belgium") is an illustration created by the British artist Arthur Rackham in 1914. It was made as an expression of support for Belgium during the First World War, which occurred shortly after the outbreak of the war. The illustration depicts the determination and resistance of Belgium against the German invasion in 1914. The image shows an allegorical representation of Belgium, symbolized by a female figure, steadfastly standing against threatening dark forces, symbolizing German aggression. The illustration was widely circulated at the time and symbolized Belgium's determination to fight for its independence and freedom.
