Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: Delamere Street To the left is the former Church of Christ church rebuilt in 1937 on the site of the disused Northgate sandstone quarry, being dismantled. Thirty years ago the photographer was told by a carpenter who worked on the original build that it was always predicted that the building would suffer from subsidence due to instability of the quarry infill. Cracks subsequently appeared in the west elevation but the subsidence may have been exacerbated by the construction of an adjacent subway in the late 1960s. The west elevation was underpinned about ten years ago but the sagging pavement was not repaired. |
