Summary[edit]
DescriptionDeseret glyphs ew and oi transformation from 1855 to 1859.svg |
English: The top two glyphs were used in the Deseret alphabet chart of 1854-5, but by 1859-1860 they had been replaced by the bottom two glyphs. The bottom two glyphs can be found in the writing of early Mormon missionary to the Hopi people Marion J. Shelton, in the collection of lead type in use by the Deseret News, and according to Kenneth R. Beesley, "by most other writers in 1859"; while the top two glyphs can be found in W.W. Phelps’ Deseret Almanac of 1855 and as the reference glyphs used by Unicode.
(Source of glyphs and their history is Beesley, Kenneth R. (2004). "Typesetting the Deseret Alphabet with LATEX and METAFONT". Presented at the 25th Annual Meeting and Conference of TeX Users Group. Xerox Research Center Europe – via CiteSeerX.) |
