Summary[edit]
DescriptionFormer Wal-Mart in Houghton Lake, Michigan.jpg |
This was the Wal-Mart store in Houghton Lake, Michigan. It opened in 1989 as an Ames, anchoring the Village Square shopping center. Ames pulled out of Michigan sometime around 1993 and it became Wal-Mart not long afterward. Considering how small Houghton Lake is, I'm amazed that they managed to get Kmart, Big Wheel (now a Home Depot) and Ames in such rapid succession. This particular building closed up in 2004ish when Wal-Mart moved to a supercenter down the road. Dunham's took this side; Tractor Supply took the east end, and the middle is still untenanted. The strip it's attached to is looking worse for wear, with many vacancies. |
