Summary[edit]

Description
English: Didcot Railway Centre 3822, a 2-8-0 freight engine dating to 1940, brings a passenger train into the halt at the south end of the railway centre complex. With the throttle closed we see the dark smoke from the fire. In the foreground there is a shunt signal whilst on the right there is an example of the catching equipment used by the travelling post office. The following link describes how the mail was caught and delivered - http://www.philatelicdatabase.com/nostalgia/post-offices-on-wheels-1929/. On the left there are some of the large number of preserved carriages on this site.
