Diplomatic gift by Japan of Cherry trees to the United States at USDA Beltsville, Maryland plant inspection station to thoroughly inspects the trees on 9 April 2024

Summary[edit]

Description
English: On April 11, 2024, the day after Japan presents its gift of cherry trees to the United States, USDA transfers the trees to its Plant Germplasm Quarantine Program in Beltsville, MD. Under Dr. Joe Foster's (light blue sweater) leadership they will be monitored and cared for over the next 24 months. The program offers a number of plant quarantine programs to growers, nurseries, breeders, and scientists who want to improve U.S. agriculture. Through these programs, USDA imports, tests, cleans, and distributes imported plants that would otherwise be prohibited entry in commercial quantities into our country. The programs ensure they are pest- and disease-free before they can enter into production. USDA provides these services for stone fruit plants like these cherry trees plus many more plant types. Public domain
The Public Domain Mark (PDM) is not a copyright license, but a symbol used to indicate that a work is in the public domain. When it is applied by the author or the copyright holder, community consensus has decided such works as being public domain in the US and countries where it is legally possible to release own work to the public domain. In the countries where this is not possible, the copyright status of the work remains undetermined.
If a file is tagged with Public Domain Mark by someone other than the author or the copyright holder, a more specific copyright tag such as one found at Commons:Copyright tags/General public domain must be applied. If this is your own work, please use {{Cc-zero}} instead.
