English: The Nickerie district is located in the north between 5.24° and 5.90° north latitude (N) and
in the west between 57.32° and 56.43° west longitude (W). The district borders to the north on the Atlantic Ocean, in the west by neighboring country Guyana, in the south by the Sipaliwini district and in the east by the Coronie district. The main town of the district is Nieuw Nickerie, where the District Commissioner resides. After Paramaribo, Nieuw Nickerie is the largest urban center in Suriname. The district is home to various departments of all relevant ministries, as well as commercial banks, a permanent public market and a central bus depot. Nickerie has a total area of 5,353 km2 and is divided into 5 administrative areas: Wageningen, Groot Henar, Eastern Polders, Nieuw Nickerie, Western Polders. In het district zijn diverse afdelingen gevestigd van alle relevante ministeries, evenals commerciële banken, een permanente openbare markt en een centraal busdepot. Nickerie heeft een totale oppervlakte van 5.353 km2 en is onderverdeeld in 5 administratieve ressorten: Wageningen, Groot Henar, Oostelijke Polders, Nieuw Nickerie, Westelijke Polders.
