Description
Deutsch: Dornier Do 17 M-1 = Bomber mit 2x Bramo 323 A-1/A-2 "Fafnir" (900 PS) Sternmotoren. Do 17 P-1/P-2 = Aufklärer mit 2x BMW 132 N (865 PS) Sternmotoren. Mit dem Stand "19.09.1938" hatte die Luftwaffe 579 Dornier Do 17 der Ausführungen E, F, M und P in ihrem Bestand. Die Folge-Ausführung "Z" wurde zwischen 1939 und 1940 in 475 Exemplaren hergestellt. Dazu parallel >100 Exemplare Do 215 Fernaufklärer mit 2x DB 601 B-1 V12-Motoren mit je 1100 PS.
Die I. Gruppe des KG 2 (Kampfgeschwader 2, "Holzhammer-Geschwader") war vom 23. Februar bis 22. März 1940, und vom 23. April bis 10. Mai 1940 in Giebelstadt mit der Do 17 Z stationiert. Die vom 1. Nov. 1938 bis 1. Okt. 1939 genutzte Do 17 M besaß noch nicht die verglaste Vollsicht-Bugkanzel der Folgeausführung Z der Dornier Do 17, jedoch verfügten beide Typen über die neuen Bramo 323 A "Fafnir" Neunzylinder-Sternmotoren.
