United States Department of the Interior Office of National Parks, Buildings, and Reservations November 19, 1934 Mrs. Felix H. Robertson Dwyer Building Brenham, Washington County, Texas Dear Mrs. Robertson: Since Mr. Allison’s letter of November 7 to you regarding the Texas Monument on the Battlefield at Gettysburg, he has located the following information. “The Texas Marker was furnished by persons in Texas, represented by Mrs. Mabel M. Bates of San Antonio. The Battlefield Commission erected the foundation and the Marker was placed September 27, 1913. I am inclosing photographs of the Virginia State Memorial, the North Carolina Monument and the Alabama Memorial, these are the only Confederate State Memorials on the field of Gettysburg. It is the hope here that at some date in the not far distant future, every Confederate state will have suitable memorials on the Battlefield of Gettysburg, to commemorate the heroic deeds of valor performed here by their noble sons. Texas should be represented by a most noble work in marble and bronze. If at any time you should desire further information in any way concerned with the Battle of Gettysburg or the National Park, please do not hesitate to communicate with us. Sincerely yours Dr. R. L. Jones Historical Technician
