Summary
[edit]DescriptionDried fish, Uyeasound - geograph.org.uk - 962598.jpg |
English: Dried fish, Uyeasound Piltocks, to give them their Shetland name, or Saithe Pollachius virens, were once a staple of the Shetland diet, salted and air-dried, usually by being hung on the washing-line, as here. The resultant food is an acquired taste - the late Bobby Tulloch got the classic photo of fish drying on the line beside drying socks, with the comment that many people thought the socks tasted better. This explains why fish drying on the line are now a rare sight. |
