Summary[edit]

Description

Altstadt - Innenhafen Duisburg The Garden of Remembrance - also called Altstadtpark - is a city park in the inner harbor of Duisburg, which was created in 1999 according to plans by Dani Karavan. It is the most extensive project of the Land Art artist in Germany to date.

In the three-hectare park, deliberately worked out remains of the former buildings (including Spar-Zentrale, Allgemeine Land- und Seetransport AG, Hermann Ludwig) were left to use as event venues or observation towers. The outline of the demolished buildings was stylized by the white concrete bands typical of the artist Karavan, the central path was made up of rubble, a triangular hill and a chaotic rock garden were modulated from the remains of the demolition, and various water surfaces were worked out.
