Summary[edit]

Description
English: Saltmarshes are hyper-saline wetland communities occurring in the upper tidal zone between the mangrove community and the dry-land vegetation in parts of Bramble Bay. Because they are not flushed by tides, except the king and spring tides, salt levels are toxic for most plants. Only halophytic (salt tolerant) plants such as some succulents, sedges, grasses and algae survive these challenging conditions. During extended dry spells even these plants die leaving exposed clay salt pans.
