Summary[edit]

Description
English: Easington Beck Culvert An overview of the embankment and culvert.

The opening of the Grinkle Ironstone Mine in 1865 necessitated Easington Beck to be culverted to allow access and for a narrow gauge railway from Port Mulgrave NZ7917 through tunnels under Ridge Lane (this grid square) and connecting Dale House NZ7717 to the harbour at Port Mulgrave.

It looks as though the culvert has recently suffered a partial collapse. The rope has been installed by an inspection team from nearby the Cleveland Potash Mine. During the operation of the mine the culvert also gave way causing the death of an employee. Ore from the mine was shipped to Jarrow and the mine abandoned in 1934.
