Summary[edit]

Description
English: East Winterslow - Pheasant Hotel The Pheasant Inn used to be known as The Winterslow Hut.It was here that the Exeter to London mail coach was attacked by a lioness in 1816. The lioness was part of a menagerie on its way to Salisbury Fair it escaped and severely mauled one of the coach horses and a large Newfoundland dog before being recaptured. The coach passengers with great presence of mind locked themselves inside the inn while the lions keepers recaptured the lioness from under a granary. This building is now a terrace of houses, 1 - 4 The Pheasantry. And history rolls on. Richard Avery (talk) 14:54, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
