Description
English: José Monteiro de Almeida House / Judicial Police Building. At 12, São Bento da Vitória Street, Vitória, Porto, Portugal.
Português: Edifício da Polícia Judiciária. Na rua de São Bento da Vitória, nº 12, freguesia da Vitória, Porto, Portugal. Palacete da primeira metade do sec. XIX, mandado construir por José Monteiro de Almeida (comerciante abastado casado com a filha de E. W. Allen, cônsul britânico), foi vendido mais tarde a José Gaspar da Graça (1857), também comerciante, por 10 contos de Réis, depois passou por herança para sua filha Dª Maria Lopes da Graça de Oliveira e seu marido Conselheiro António de Oliveira Monteiro (1888) e vendido pelos descendentes destes em 1928 ao Estado Português. Conhecido pela Casa da Baronesa da Regaleira, teve diversas funções: Colégio Podestá (1853); Correio Central (1857), que em 1880-1881 foi transferido para o Palacete da Batalha; Teatro Vitória (ainda nos anos 80); e Liceu Central do Porto (1887), mais tarde chamado Rodrigues de Freitas.
