| Description |
English: Eglwys Beuno Sant Clynnog Fawr. The present church dates from the sixteenth century, but is on the site of the original Clas (a cross between a College and a Monastery, characteristic of the Celtic church) founded by St Beuno http://www.earlybritishkingdoms.com/bios/beuno.html in the early seventh century. Previous churches were destroyed by Vikings and later by the Normans. The site was always a major shrine on the pilgrims' route to Enlli (Bardsey). Its present size reflects its importance as one of only six collegiate churches in Wales at the end of the fifteenth century. |
