English: Description: Elizabeth Tashjian, aka The Nut Lady, championed the nut by not only creating her own inventive portraits of a variety of nut and nutcrackers, but by opening her own nut museum in Old Lyme Connecticut. She was the daughter of aristocratic Armenian immigrants and studied at the New York school of Applied Design for Women as well as the National Academy of Design. The Juley Collection, acquired by the Smithsonian American Art Museum in 1975, constitutes a unique visual record of American art sometimes providing the only photographic documentation of altered, damaged, or lost works.
