Summary[edit]

Description
English: Built in 1906, this Beaux Arts-style building was designed by Eames and Young for the Ely and Walker Dry Goods Company. The building features a red brick exterior with orange and black terra cotta trim, one-over-one double-hung windows, rusticated trim at the base, a limestone base course, brick pillars with decorative capitals separating the window bays on the upper floors, black terra cotta spandrels on the upper floors, decorative terra cotta cladding at the top of the building with decorative carved sculptural reliefs, and decorative trim surrounds at the entry doors on the ground floor. The building is a contributing structure in the Washington Avenue Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, and is today an apartment building known as the Ely Walker Lofts.
