Summary[edit]
DescriptionEngraving showing two putti using a Roman workbench, based on a fresco from the ruins of Herculaneum.jpg |
English: An engraving by Filippo Morghen from Delle antichità di Ercolano (1757-1779) of two putti sawing wood on an eight legged workbench, based on a fresco in the ruins of Herculaneum. According to Christopher Schwarz of Lost Art Press the now ruined fresco is of note as one of the earliest known images of a woodworking bench. Also visible is a holdfast being using to secure a piece of wood. |
