English: Memorial "Stolperstein" for Erich Mäder, a homosexual victim of the Nazis. It is located at Jahnstrasse 10 in the city Freiburg. The text reads: "Here lived Erich Mäder, born 1904. Arrested. Dachau Concentration Camp. Ravensbrück Concentration Camp. Dead on 17 May 1941." Erich Mäder was born on November 19, 1904, in Freiburg. He was a salesman by profession and lived with his parents at Jahnstrasse 6 (today renumbered Jahnstrasse 10). His father joined the Nazi Party in 1931 and as of 1939 was an assistant block leader (a neighborhood group leader in Nazi Germany). On May 16, 1940, Erich Mäder was sentenced by a Freiburg court to a prison term of 10 months on grounds of homosexuality (Paragraph 175). The court documents have been destroyed in the meantime. On February 13, 1941, he was deported to the concentratioon camp at Dachau (near Munich), where he received the prisoner number 23830. On April 8, 1941, he was further deported to the men's concentration camp at Ravensbrück. There he was murdered on May 17, 1941, at the age of 36.
