Español: ESCUDO DE LA ISLA ESPAÑOLA DE SANTO DOMINGO:

La isla fue honrada con un escudo que ostenta, en campo de gules, una banda de plata, engolada de dos dragantes de oro, con bordura componada de gules y oro, cargada de castillos, yugos, leones, flechas y las iniciales F e I alternados.

La isla de Santo Domingo fue el escenario de los primeros asentamientos españoles en América, por lo tanto los primeros escudos otorgados por los Reyes Católicos a lugares americanos fueron otorgados a la isla y a las primeras villas exitosas en la misma.

El Real Privilegio de Juana de Castilla (1508):

El 7 de diciembre de 1508, por un Real Privilegio de Juana de Castilla, se concedieron escudos a la isla Española de Santo Domingo y a las quinces villas existentes en la isla.

Se le otorgó un escudo a la isla porque era costumbre que cada reino tuviese su propio escudo.
