Summary[edit]

Description A U.S. Navy Grumman F-14A-135-GR Tomcat (BuNo 162599) of Fighter Squadron VF-1 "Wolfpack" launches an AIM-54 Phoenix missile. VF-1 was assigned to Carrier Air Wing 2 aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ranger (CV-61).
The F-14A 162599 later crashed on 29 January 1996 near Nashville, Tennessee (USA) while in service with VF-213. The pilot failed to recover from a steep dive following vertigo and both crewmembers and three people on the ground were killed.
