11. Sonic Youth Jazzmaster model
ALTERNATIVE
SONIC YOUTH
In the hands of New York alt-indie
godfathers Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo,
the sound of Sonic Youth is the sound
sound of Fender Jazzmaster guitars
used as part paintblush and part
cluster bomb. The highly experimental
noise-rock guitar interplay
they've championed from the early
1980s onward relies heavily on
their modified instruments and
alternate tunings. They are
a major and enduring
influence on modern
alternative rock.
