Summary[edit]
DescriptionFarmers Bridge Top Lock, Birmingham - geograph.org.uk - 1738163.jpg |
English: Farmers Bridge Top Lock, Birmingham Lock No 1 is at the top of the flight of thirteen which alter the water level by 81 feet (24.6 metres) in just 750 metres. The Cambrian Wharf is the other side of the lock.
The new wooden bollard is a result of health and safety officials looking for something to do and deciding that after 220 years the locks were not safe to operate without them. The white notice reads, "IMPORTANT NOTICE Stourbridge Canal closed due to a major breach. River Severn closed." (In flood). We abandoned Plan B, following the large amount of rain which had fallen over the previous few days. On the way down these locks, heavy rain restarted and continued for four hours again. |
