Summary[edit]

Description
English: Wooden Faroese rowing boats in Tórshavn, the photo was taken at the Ólavsøka regatta on 28 July 2011. Some of the boats have special stems like these one on this photo. Havnar Róðrarfelag is the rowing club of Tórshavn, they use a dragon head on their white boats. The boats from Vestmanna have a grean dragon head and the boats from Argir are red and have red dragon head. Most of the other clubs don't use dragon heads. The Faroese rowing competitions are held around the islands in June and July, there are seven of these regattas or festivals (stevnur). The boat race is called Kappróður in Faroese and the boats are called Kappróðrarbátar. There are competitions for children, young teenagers and adults, men and women, girls and boys. The children are rowing 500 meters, some of the boats for the adults are rowing 1000 meters, some row 1500 meters and the largest, the 10-mannafar, are rowing 2000 meters. At the Ólavsøka festival though, all the boats for the adults are only rowing 1000 meters because the fjord is too short for longer distances.
Føroyskt: Beint áðrenn kappróðurin á Ólavsøku. Kappróðrarbátar við drekastevni niðri á parkeringsøkinum "Røntgan" við Eystaru Vág. Myndin er tikin Ólavsøkuaftan 28. juli 2011. Tey hvítu drekastevnini eru tey hjá Havnar Róðrarfelag, tað grøna er hjá Vestmenningum og tað reyða er tað hjá Argja Róðrarfelag. Bláu bátarnir í miðjuni eru teir hjá Róðrarfelagnum Knørri.
