Summary[edit]
DescriptionFerrara - Palazzo Prosperi-Sacrati - Marble Portal.jpg |
Palazzo Prosperi Sacrati was the first building to be constructed on the Quadrivio of the Addizione Erculea. It was built on the initiative of Francesco da Castello, personal physician of Ercole I, who enthusiastically accepted the duke's project. Works began in 1493 but were still in progress in 1511 when da Castello died. The most remarkable element of the building is however the magnificent marble portal in Venetian style, notable for its high entablature with an ornate frieze, where the putti holding up the balcony are sitting. The Palazzo was severely damaged by the bombardments in 1944 and was partly rebuilt after the war. |
