Summary[edit]

Description

The fountains Orfonds.

Orfonds the fountain has been known for centuries. It supplied to Contray, a Gallo-Roman villa, via an aqueduct. Part of this aqueduct is still visible (www.flickr.com/photos/sybarite48/13240295144/)

Formerly the place was called « Aurea fonte », the « fountain of gold. »

This attractive source in the form of a horseshoe, is associated with a curious legend ... Orfons the magician had the science of the Druids. Invisible to human eyes, he liked to lay up treasures. . . Thus, he had stolen white dress dotted with diamonds Notre-Dame-de-Beautertre. He had also melted the gold statue of St. Bruno de la Chartreuse du Liget. It was therefore condemned by God to stay locked in the crypt of the chapel of Saint-Nicolas-du-Bois.

Once a year, every Christmas midnight, he could, with a magic key, escape the crypt and indulge in his favorite pastime: winnowing gold coins from his treasure ...
