English: FIRMAN

Period of Ahmad Shah, Qajar Iran, AH Jumada II 1334/5 April-3 May 1916 AD

On cream paper, 6ll. of black nasta'liq, dated below Jumada II 1334, the seal impression of Ahmad Shah dated 1332 above, surrounded by floral illumination, mounted, framed and glazed Document 25¼ x 18¼in. (64 x 46.2cm.)

This firman is issued in the name of Naqi Khan, the commander of the army and deputy governor of Azerbayjan as a sign of gratitude for his services there. It honours him with a royal timthal, a royal portrait usually worn in the form of an oval brooch. It came through the recommendation of Muhammad Vali Khan, the Commander-in-Chief, Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, who held the above offices for a mere six months.

The firman bears the seal impression of the Shah and his signature.
