Description
Deutsch: Man blickt vom Westen der Nordseeinsel Wangerooge nach Norden. Einige Hundertermeter vor der Küste sieht man Brandung, die sich auf dem Weg zum Ufer wieder verliert. Das Phänomen ist häufig und verbreitet an der Seeseite von Wangerooge zu sehen.

Vermutlich ist das Wasser dort so niedrig, dass sich die Wellen brechen. Eine Untiefe in Nähe einer Küste nennt man auch Riff.

Zwei Prozesse könnten hier vielleicht das Riff gebildet haben.

Zum einen gibt es eine ständige Sanddrift von Westen nach Osten entlang der ostfriesischen Inseln. Dabei wird Sand oft auch parallel zur Uferlinie transportiert. Das kann man oft auf Luft- oder Satellitenaufnahmen sehen.

Zum anderen ist auch die Aufschüttung des Sandes durch die Wellen alleine denkbar. Ein so entstandenes Riff nennt man auch eine Barre.

Die Schiffe im Hintergrund sind einige Kilometer weit vom Inselufer entfernt. Dort liegen gewohnheitsmäßig viele Schiffe auf Reede.
