Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Footpath erosion Areas such as these with reasonably steep slopes and loose surface sediment are prone to footpath erosion. Feet (and hooves and bike wheels) act to remove the vegetation and provide a course that water can flow along (the surface layer of soil can also become less permeable due to being compacted). It is then the water that does the erosion, in this case eroding holes vertically down as well. Measures against erosion therefore have to focus on managing the flow of water - the actual number of users isn't very important, over the threshold that removes the vegetation.
