Summary[edit]

Description
English: The former Louis W. Frieh auto shop and filling station at 1049 Jefferson Avenue (corner Best Street) in Buffalo, New York, as seen in August 2022. Though in derelict condition today, this still-handsome structure at the east end of Buffalo's Masten Park neighborhood still ably exemplifies the Mediterranean Revival architectural style that was all the rage c. 1926, when it was constructed: the red tile roof, low-slung massing, and the warm-toned color scheme are all textbook characteristics. A specialist in auto glass, Louis W. Frieh operated his repair shop and (later) attached filling station here, later branding as Best Service Center. That iteration of the business closed in 1963, but it remained operational as an auto repair shop under various owners until at least 1992. Abandoned for at least 20 years as of when this photo was taken, it's now owned by the city.
