Summary
[edit]DescriptionFormer railway station, Leigh-on-Sea (geograph 4756249).jpg |
English: Former railway station, Leigh-on-Sea The station opened in 1856 at the time the line to Southend was built. It closed in 1934 when the London Midland & Scottish Railway replaced it with Chalkwell to the east and a new Leigh-on-Sea station to the west. The reason for this was its inconvenient siting. It was by then at some distance from the developing residential areas of the town, could not be reached by buses and had no car parking facilities. The footbridge to the left was built around 1960 and replaced a level crossing. |
